At the TIPS journal club meeting held on December 17, 2018, the topic of “Analytical applications of nanomaterials in pharmaceutical sciences” was presented by Dr. Hamid Rashidi, the TIPS invited speaker from The Institute of Standards, Iranian National Standardization Organization. At the beginning of the presentation Dr. Rashidi introduced the principle applications of Graphene in medicine and pharmaceutical sciences. Then, he went into the details of the methods used for the synthesis of grapheme. Later, He explained about the absorbance features of the graphene as well as the adsorption mechanism and adsorption capacity particularly in drug delivery. In continue, Dr. Rashidi gave some information regarding other nanomaterials such as SPIONs (superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles) and Multiwall Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNT) and their applications in drug (Bromelain, Curcomin and…) delivery. In addition, development of several methods based on nanomaterials and their analytical application in pharmaceutical science were discussed.
