At TIPS journal club meeting held on May 13, 2019, topic of “The role of open source in silico tools in drug discovery’’ was presented by M. Bule, TIPS PhD candidate. The contribution of open source software those with no restrictions to modify and distribute software, the full source code available to users, the software license does not limit how, where, or by whom can be used in the process of drug discovery. In addition, open-source could be a way to address market niches that cannot support blockbusters (such as neglected diseases). Therefore, open-source software will continue to have a significant impact in R&D in the areas of bioinformatics and drug design.
